Artsmark and Arts Awards
The Arts Award for Schools
Arts Council England Artsmark is awarded to schools in recognition of outstanding commitment to the arts. It is a benchmark for arts education provision. The three levels of award are Artsmark, Artsmark Silver, and Artsmark Gold. Artsmark Awards are available to all schools in England - primary, secondary, special schools and pupil referral units, both maintained and independent. Applications are invited in November of each year.
Artsmark Awards are valid for three years at which time schools can re-apply at either the same level, or that appropriate to their current level of arts provision. Schools can apply within the three year time period for a higher award.
Milton Keynes Arts Education Forum is committed to helping schools achieve this award and currently organise two seminars each year to assist with the application process. The first seminar is held in June or July each year with a follow up in September.
The seminars are suitable for Headteachers, senior managers, Art subject leaders and Art Co-ordinators from all primary, secondary and special schools and are particularly aimed at schools:
- wishing to apply for Artsmark for the first time
- wishing to re-apply for the Award but requiring an update on changes to the application form.
- who would like to find out about Artsmark with a view to applying for an award in the future
- wishing to carry out a well-constructed, detailed audit of the provision for the arts in their school.
Invitations to attend the seminars are sent out to schools at the beginning of the summer term.
