DanceXchange
"I thought DanceXchange was the best experience in my life - I loved it"
"It was so amazing doing DanceXchange I would definitely do it again"
Just two of the quotes made by children who took part in our 2008 flagship project
DanceXchange!
DanceXchange is currently a bi-annual event that aims to give school children from Primary and Secondary schools in Milton Keynes, the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with a professional choreographer and perform on an international stage.
DanceXchange aims to raise the profile of Dance in schools and enhance childrens' experience of the Arts.
It hopes to inspire them to get involved in dance and also encourage their teachers and schools to experiment with dance as a way of having fun, staying fit and active and also learning to express themselves.
This citywide Dance celebration has become a highlight in the local community diary. Each event gives over 400 children from 25 or so different schools across the city the opportunity to take part in this unique experience.
As part of the process both teachers and pupils welcome into their schools a professional choreographer who will develop dance routines in schools based workshops. This process culminates in a dress rehearsal followed by the evening performance at Milton Keynes Theatre.
Choreographers will devise dance routines covering a range of styles. Previous DanceXchange events have seen performances of Latin, Ballroom, Musical Theatre, Chinese, Indian and Contemporary, as well as traditional dances such as English Sword Dancing
Participating schools also have the opportunity for their pupils to get involved in designing the theatre programme and DVD cover. To see winning designs from DanceXchange 2006, 2008 and 2010 click on either one here 2006 Programme / 2008 Programme / 2010 Programme
DanceXchange inspires children to get involved in dance and also encourages their teachers and schools to experiment with dance as a way of having fun and staying fit and active.
