Guidelines on working with schools

This guide is for artists who are considering working in schools. It does not reproduce a formula for planning residencies, as each situation is unique to the particular school and artist involved. However, it raises questions or points of discussion for artists to consider before embarking on a residency. A residency can last a day or a year and this guide concentrates on relatively short-term ones.

Topics within the guide include:

  • The value of a residency
  • Art and the school curriculum
  • Working with schools
  • Skills for artists-in-residence
  • Meeting with schools
  • The project outline
  • Planning checklist
  • Budget and funding
