Guidelines on Residencies

In order to assist schools with planning and organising their own residencies we have put together some guidelines designed to take you through the whole process from deciding what kind of project you would like to undertake to meeting with the artist and agreeing aims and desired outcomes.

This guide is for teachers who are considering setting up a residency with an artist at their school.  It raises questions or points of discussion for teachers to consider before embarking on a residency.  However, it does not reproduce a formula for planning residencies, as each situation is unique to the particular school and artist involved.  A residency can last a day or a year and this guide concentrates on relatively short-term ones.

Topics within the guide include:

The value of a residency
How artists can work with schools
Setting up a residency
Designing a project
Meeting the artist
The project outline
Planning checklist
Budget and funding
